Droid X, Droid 2 To Feature 1GHz Processor
The folks over at DroidLife have really been spoiling Verizon’s fun the past few weeks, as they’ve been leaking a ton of images and internal documents relating to the new Droids coming later this summer, the Droid X and Droid 2. Now, based on a slide they’ve gotten, both phones will come with 1GHz OMAP processors.

That’s right, while a lot of recent HTC Android phones have gone with the Snapdragon processors from Qualcomm, Motorola is sticking with their old companions at Texas Instruments, and namely their 45nm OMAP3630, which offers 1GHz speeds. There may be some advantages to using the OMAP processor over the Snapdragon chips, as the guys at AndroidandMe are claiming that the OMAP’s PowerVR SGX530 graphic are more powerful, graphically, than the Snapdragon’s Adreno graphics core.
To recap these phones, the Droid X (pictured above) is set to be the 4.3-inch slate phone, coming in July with Android 2.1 and a new UI “Shadow BLUR”. The Droid 2 will be a slimmed down, faster sequel to the first Droid, including a slider-QWERTY keyboard. It’ll be running Android 2.2 and will be coming in August. All that is according to rumors, of course, but they’re from credible sources.
1Ghz looks to be the new standard for Android phones. Anything less and the performance might just not be there. Until manufacturers started putting Android on these hot phones, the platform was really floundering.
