Sprint Overdrive Firmware Update 2.06.06 Now Available

Sprint Rolls Out Overdrive 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot Firmware Update, Said To Improve Device Stability, Improve Wi-Fi Reliability & More]

Sprint Overdrive users may want to pay attention to this one as Sprint has recently offered up a new firmware update. The update brings the version number up to 2.06.06 and can be found on the Sprint website.

Aside from just being a Sprint Overdrive owner, this update appears to be one that all Overdrive users will want to move forward with. According to the change log, you can expect to see an improvement in terms of overall device stability as well as battery life and reliability of Wi-Fi. Aside from those few that seemed to stick out, the full change log is below.

Key Performance Enhancements:

  • Improves device stability, eliminating all known freeze-ups and lock-ups.
  • WiFi enhancements to improve WiFi stability and eliminate disconnects and crashes.
  • Significant improvements in 3G and 4G WAN stability.
  • Some improvement (~10%) in overall batter life and battery life in poor coverage.
  • Faster boot-up time (~10-20 seconds faster).
  • Improved response time when changing the WAN mode setting with no reboot required.
  • Eliminates need for a device reset when changing modes such as “4G preferred” to “4G only”, “4G preferred” to “3G only”, etc.
  • Faster response time after canceling an operation in the Advanced Settings screen (no device reset required and offline time decreased by ~90 seconds).
  • Added additional 4G channels for future growth.
  • For Enterprise customers, customization and Data Link support have been added. Please contact your sales rep for additional information on these Enterprise customer features.

Aside from what you can gain from moving forward with firmware 2.06.06, there was also mention of two methods for installation. You can use your computer connected to the Overdrive and login to https://192.168.0.1 and use the “Check for updates now” option or manually download the update file to your computer and then perform the update.

Either way, both methods will work the same as to the end result. And without actually going through the process myself, I have to rely on the estimated times given. According that that, I would say choose option two as that is given a 5-10 minute ETA as opposed to the 10-20 minute ETA for option one.

With that, those who are going for option two can visit the Sprint website and download the firmware update. Of course, those of you choosing either one or two should visit the Sprint website and download the PDF instruction file.
