Leaked AT&T Memo Details Price Protection Policy For Recent iPhone 3GS Purchasers

AT&T iPhone 3GS Customers: If You Purchased Your 3GS On Or After May 7th You Can Get A $50 Or $100 Bill Credit

People always want the latest and greatest, and in the case of the iPhone that is sometimes hard to do with an annual release cycle. Thankfully, AT&T appears to be stepping up in the form of a “one-time Customer Price Protection” and offering recent iPhone 3GS purchasers a few options that should hopefully make them feel less jaded.

Of course, this goes without saying that some off this is nothing more than a glorified announcement. After all, AT&T always has a 30 day return policy in effect. But that aside, its nice to see them being proactive on the matter.

So, two options available — get a credit or make a return. First things first, in order to qualify you would need to have purchased your iPhone on or after May 7th, 2010. Assuming you meet that requirement…read on.

According to the details from the memo;

  • Customers who purchased iPhone 3GS May 7th through May 14th will have until June 14th to visit the original location of purchase and receive this one-time bill credit
  • Customers who purchased after May 14th will have 30 days to complete their price protection transaction by returning to the original location of purchase

In terms of the credit, $50 for a 16GB iPhone 3GS and $100 for a 32GB iPhone 3GS. And remember, these are bill credits not actual cash back.

For those that do not want to get the bill credit and keep their iPhone 3GS, here is option two.

“A customer who purchased iPhone 3G/3GS through a Local Dealer from May 7, 2010 until June 7, 2010, who would like to exchange it for iPhone 4 and pay the price difference, will be able to do so.”

Personally I would go for number two, but then again I have already admitted to always feeling like I need the latest and greatest mobile phone in other posts so I am probably not the best person to take advice from on this matter.
