WWDC 2010: iPhone 4 Comes with Video Calling Support: FaceTime; We Don’t Like It Yet [iPhone 4 Video Calling Available Over Wi-Fi Only & to iPhone 4 Handsets Only?]
Just as expected Apple has introduced the iPhone 4 today, and, just as expected, the new iPhone is going to offer video calling support thanks to that front-facing camera. That all sounds good, at least in theory, as Apple made sure the feature will only be available under certain terms and conditions.

We’ve been waiting for an iPhone with a front-facing camera on board for a long time, not because we want to make a lot of video calls all the time but because other phones have it. Steve Jobs has finally introduced one capable to satisfy our needs but video calling is already annoying.
Apple has an application for that particular feature called FaceTime which will let you make all the video calls you want, as long as they’re over Wi-Fi and as long as you’re calling another iPhone 4 device. Does all that sound disturbing to you too? What’s up with video calling over 3G, Apple? AT&T? What about video calling to other, non-iPhone OS devices? Will there be an app for that?
Sure the new iPhone 4 offers picture in picture video calling, portrait and landscape support and has a great new display but why not make conference calling a little better from the beginning?
We’ll also mention the fact that you can use both cameras when making a video call and that Apple wants to make FaceTime an Open standard. But in the mean time we really don’t like the fact that the new iPhone brings only iPhone 4 to iPhone 4 video calling and especially the lack for 3G video calling support.
What are your thoughts on the matter?
