HTC EVO 4G Root Hits The Public

After A Few Private Roots, How To Guide Hits The Web, Phone Still Not Out Yet

Although the HTC EVO 4G isn’t even out yet, some of the brightest developers got their hands on the device via the Google I/O conference where Google handed them out to all attendees. The phone was rooted twice before it’s release by two different teams, but both declined to release how they had did it, until now.

Matt Mastracci was the first to root the device along with his group of mobile hacker pals. At the time, Mr. Mastracci only said that they weren’t ready to publicly release how they had gotten root access yet. A few days later, another fellow, toastcfh of the xda-developers forum, posted that he had gained superuser access on the Android phone, and had even installed Android 2.2 on the phone.

As promised, toastcfh released the “How To” guide on gaining root access on your HTC EVO 4G. Enterprising power users can find the detailed instructions on the xda-developers forums (link). The process looks to be fairly straight forward for anybody who is comfortable with a command line. The process will wipe your HTC EVO 4G, but considering the device isn’t even out yet, shouldn’t be a problem for most of you.

Ironically, the modders have been hard at work trying to crack the Droid Incredible, which has been out on the market for a month or so already. The HTC EVO 4G comes out tomorrow, and it’s already been rooted. Kind of humorous, surely.
