Two Million iPads Sold
Today is Memorial Day here in the United States, and Apple is remembering all the money they’ve made. Today, the Cupertino-based electronics giant released a press release bragging about how many iPads they’ve sold. They’ve sold 2 million units in less than two months. Needless to say, they’re flying off proverbial store shelves.

As you may be aware, the iPad started shipping internationally (if you count only nine countries as “internationally”) last week, which surely provided a big boost to sales of the little iPad. Analyst estimates before the launch of the device had pegged Apple as selling five to seven million units this year – which seemed astronomically high to me at the time. Those numbers are well within reach – although some analysts are now predicting 10 to 12 million, which is probably too high (never can underestimate the holiday season, though).
In the press release, Steve Jobs thanked everybody’s patience who couldn’t get an iPad when they wanted one. In a comment probably aimed at the international markets, he says:
Customers around the world are experiencing the magic of iPad, and seem to be loving it as much as we do. We appreciate their patience, and are working hard to build enough iPads for everyone.
Notice he used the word magic again. We reported some time ago that based on Apple’s earning reports, the iPad was outselling their Macintosh computers, which isn’t that hard to believe, considering the most expensive iPad is cheaper than the least expensive Mac (save for the admittedly awesome Mac Mini).
Anybody have any Memorial Day stories with the iPad? Are you out for a picnic with the family and showing off your new iPad?
