Rogers Confirms Android 2.1 Upgrade Coming For Magic & X10 Smartphones [HTC Magic & Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Will Get Android 2.1 Update & Acer Liquid Will Launch With 2.1]
Those using an Android smartphone with Rogers Wireless may want to listen up for a moment as we have a little bit of Android 2.1 related news to pass on. It seems as if the upgrade for the HTC Magic and Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 have been confirmed and given estimated arrival times. Additionally, as we previously mentioned, the Liquid E will ship with Android 2.1.

First let cover the HTC Magic, the news is that “HTC will deliver 2.1 for Magic for testing end of June.” And don’t mind the slightly strange sound of the quote as it came by way of Twitter (@RogersMary) and many of us realize the limits of 140 characters. Of course, that does not mean users are going to see an upgrade in June, but hopefully soon thereafter. Granted, I suppose things could go terribly wrong and the plans could change, but lets think on the positive side. Especially after all of that 911 calling mess that took place with the Magic back in January which led to the introduction of the Magic + with Android 1.5 and the Sense UI.
Next up is the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, and in this case we already knew that the Android 2.1 update was coming, but at the same time it has now been narrowed down to September, October or November. Or as described in the tweet, “X10 2.1 in Fall.”
And with that there should be some happy Android users on Rogers — after all the Magic is still on 1.5 and the X10 is sitting with 1.6. Of course, this news is likely to anger some of the Samsung Galaxy Spica users as well as the recently released Motorola Quench users who are both still on Android 1.5. Lets hope that they both also get the Android 2.1 update in time, and I guess in the end there is always going to be someone left disapponted. Still, at least neither of these handsets have gotten anything similar to the Samsung and T-Mobile announcement regarding the Behold II.
