Black Amazon Kindle Spotted In Seattle

Photos Emerge Of A Black Kindle, Down The Street From Amazon's Offices, But Could Be Another eReader

So the Kindle may not be getting a color screen anytime soon, but Amazon’s eReader could be coming in other colors! A tipster took some covert FBI-grade spy photos from across a coffee shop in Seattle, where Amazon was reportedly taking video and recording a new black Kindle. But is it really a Kindle?

CrunchGear broke the story (hence the watermark), but almost as soon as the picture was posted, people begun questioning if it was a Kindle or another eReader. For one, it doesn’t have a keyboard. There have been rumors that the next Kindle would be without keyboard, though, so this isn’t completely impossible.

The black eReader pictured sure looks a lot like the ASUS DR 900 eReader, though, doesn’t it? The tipster who took the picture for CrunchGear maintains that Amazon was there filming video, and that it wasn’t simply a skin, book cover or colorware. As a Kindle owner myself, that box it’s sitting on does look like the box my Kindle came in.

As CrunchGear’s Devin Coldewey suggests, if Amazon is taking video, then it’s probably a finished model and near release. If you’ve ever seen the Kindle videos on the Amazon page, it features lots of video of people laying on the beach, reading their Kindles, becoming more enlightened. I can already imagine this “next Kindle” having a video where hipsters are reading it in this hip Seattle coffee shop.

Do you like how it looks? Would you consider buying a Kindle if it had a bigger screen like that?
