AT&T Says 40% of iPhones Are Sold to Enterprise [According to AT&T iPhone User Base is Largely Business Oriented]

When you think of a business handset which is the first device that comes to mind? Many of you would probably say BlackBerry and with good reason. With its critically acclaimed email client and other enterprise oriented features, it’s almost a given that if you’re any sort of business executive, you have a BlackBerry. However, it seems that according to recent reports another pretty popular device is making its name as a business handset. Can you guess what it is?

If you said the iPhone, you would be entirely correct. First launched back in 2007, the device was viewed as having the potential to be a business handset but lacking in a few departments. Well, it’s come a pretty long way and is on its third reiteration with the fourth just around the corner, leading many to wonder if the device is ready for the business world.

According to AT&T, the iPhone is ready to make its way into the pockets of executives everywhere, and has been for some time now. According to the CEO of AT&T’s Business Solutions, Ron Spears, 40% of all iPhones sold are actually sold to enterprise users. For you math majors out there, thats about 4 out of every 10 iPhones being sold for business purposes.

Spears says that while the iPhone was originally not thought of as a business oriented device due to its lack of features and, more importantly, lack of solid security, it hadn’t received the spotlight it deserved. Now, Apple has fixed many of the gripes enterprise users have had with the device including 80% of the security problems by the time the 3G rolled around, according to Spears, which makes the iPhone a much better alternative to the BlackBerry.

Regardless of how many business oriented features Apple manages to cram into the iPhone it’s going to be ridiculously hard to overtake RIM’s BlackBerry as the premiere business device. Unless they add a physical keyboard (which they aren’t going to) enterprise users will still have something to complain about.
