Apple TV Follow-Up Device Now Riding The Rumor Train [Next-Generation Apple TV Expected To Feature 16GB Of Internal Storage, Cloud Storage & Running iPhone OS 4]

With WWDC 2010 quickly approaching the Apple related rumors are not likely to stop, and all I can think is how refreshing it is to hear details about a potential product aside from the iPhone HD. Anyway, the latest is dealing with a possible refresh to the Apple TV — and an interesting one at that. Unfortunately, like the iPhone, this one is not expected to be unveiled at WWDC.

Basically what we have is coming courtesy of Engadget, who have reported based on the word of a “source very close to Apple.” In short, assuming these details are accurate, the Apple TV could go from a semi-flopping hobby device to a full fledged Apple product. Interestingly enough, and also not surprising is that the source mentioned that the updated Apple TV had been in the works since before Google made their television solution public.

So what are the details, let begin with the operating system — iPhone OS 4. Additionally, because of the shared iPhone OS, the Apple TV is also expected to be powered by the same A4 processor. Other details include a rather small amount of internal storage –16GB, however that is expected to made up for by way of cloud based storage.

In terms of the overall device, its said to be small and limited in ports as well as able to offer support for full 1080p HD. The source also noted it as having only a power and video out and described it as “an iPhone without a screen.”

Oh, and its expected to be $99. Personally, I have always like the Apple TV but this just makes it seem even better, and its also likely a device that I could see myself purchasing. That said, I do have one question in terms of support for apps. Assuming this is running the iPhone OS as rumored, then we should have access to apps. Except, iPhone apps already look horrible on an iPad, which would mean a new line of apps and a new price point for apps.
