Apple Launches Self-Publishing Service For iBookstore [Self-Publish & Sell Your Book in The Apple iBookstore, Here Are The Steps & Requirements]
There will always be the budding author, whether it be for a novel, how-to manual or collection of poetry — sometimes the barrier of getting published it not in the quality of your work, but in the lack of connections. That said, its always nice to have options to self publish, of which there are more than a few available. But still, thanks to the popularity of ebooks it has become even easier. Just to name a few of the biggies, you can self publish with Amazon or Barnes & Noble and now the iBookstore from Apple.

And that latest one is also the most recent to see an announcement. Also as you have most likely guessed — there are some rules and requirements that you must meet and/or follow. For example, your book needs to be submitted in the EPUB format and it also has to pass the EpubCheck 1.0.5. Additionally, you will have to secure an ISBN number. That covers your work, but there are also a few rules in regards to the financial side.
As far as that goes, everyone who wants to submit a book will need to have a valid US Tax ID and an iTunes account with active credit card on file. Again, nothing crazy so far. Unfortunately, that does limit who can participate as of now.

A few things to keep in mind, Apple will not provide the ISBN number, which means you will need to do that on your own. And for those that cannot or just do not know how there are also options available to work with a partner of Apple. Also unmentioned as of yet is what the earnings split will be. For example, on the app side, its 70/30 with Apple claiming the 30 percent. Otherwise, once in the iBookstore you can choose which countries will be able to purchase your books.
With that, I guess its a good time for those who may currently be writing — at least now you will have several options available for self-publishing.
