Verizon Droid Eris Android 2.1 Update Causing Trouble For Some Users
Verizon Wireless rolled out the over-the-air Android 2.1 update for Droid Eris users just a short while ago, and it seems that some users may have wished they stayed on Android 1.5. Yup, reports of issues are beginning to surface.

This is one of those times where I almost hate to write a post because I may jinx myself. That said, I will keep my fingers crossed.
In summary, I upgraded my Droid Eris to Android 2.1 using the method I wrote about back on May 14th, and later upgraded my wife and daughters Eris over the air. And here comes the potential jinx — none of the three Eris in my household are experiencing these issues. Needless to say I was surprised when I began reading that so many users were having issues with the 2.1 update.
Diving in a little deeper, the issues seem to range from annoying to crippling. For example, on the lower priority side you have complaints that the weather widget is not updating properly. But perhaps a little more important are the complaints dealing with missing call audio and message notification issues. And a phone that has no (or even poor) audio on a call is pretty bad.
Luckily, it seems that Verizon is aware of the issues, though they are more aware of some than others. According to the Android Authority blog, Verizon is “already working on the weather widget issue, but that other less frequently cited problems (such as missing call audio and message notification issues) have not been properly documented yet.”
What that means is if you are having issues you need to help your fellow Droid Eris users by making sure they are mentioned and documented. Basically, you need to report any issues to Verizon by way of the customer service line or the user forums on the Verizon website.

The update flashes the rom when a rom is flashed the new one will work but not properly thats why you MUST do a hard reset after the upgrade is done then all will work its just how it goes when flashing roms the update should have come with info. on how to do this. my eris had problems also but having flashed roms on windows devices, turning samsung omnia into a htc with touchflo etc. i already knew what to do when i started running into problems.
Just fired off an email to Verizon after the 4th automated call they made to me asking for the $60 I owe them from last month. Currently paying $130/month for service on my eris. Can not say it’s been worth it as of late:
Hey Verizon,
Generally love your service, for the most part you get what you pay for. I owe you guys $60 from last billing cycle and had planned to have it paid off at the end of last month. My next bill is due the 18th and I plan on paying the full balance. Please let me know if my service is going to be interrupted before then (could embezzle money from kids college funds or make diapers reversible). $130+/month is pretty hefty in today’s market, but until recently (upgrade to 2.1) I was satisfied with the service. Providing the OTA upgrade was really cool of you guys and a major reason I went with this over the iPhone, but come on guys. I know you’ve read the message boards and gotten plenty of feedback. Paying $130/month for a phone that has to be turned on/off at least once a day, misses/cant answer calls, and has the battery life of a kids power wheel toy (about 5 hours) is unacceptable. I KNOW I’m not the only one that’s brought this up. Verizon has called me multiple times EVERY DAY for the past 5 days asking for money. I agreed to pay my contract amount for the best service in wireless, time for you guys to keep up your end too. I know you (the rep handling this) is not directly responsible, but put yourself in my shoes. I’m a husband/father of three that still wants a neat-o phone at a decent value. What are we going to do here?
Thanks,
Jon R
