Comcast Extreme 105Mbps Broadband Expected To Launch In June & Cost $199.95 Per Month

Comcast May Begin Offering 105Mbps Broadband Service "On Or Around June 1, 2010"

It would appear as if Comcast is about to begin offering a new level of broadband service that gives true meaning to the term high speed. The connection is being dubbed as the Extreme 105, and similar to the name, it will be 105Mbps.

This sounds pretty impressive, and would also serve to one up another leading plan in that of the 101Mbps offering from Cablevision. Though, in reality I am not sure anyone could honestly argue the benefit over 105 and 101. At either of those rates its just fast.

At this point the details on the Extreme 105 service plan are still pretty limited and what we have is coming from a DSL Reports article stating that Comcast has begun sending in-bill notifications to some subscribers. According to the notification, the Extreme 105 plan will offer speeds of 105Mbps downstream and 10Mbps upstream.

Additional details include that the Extreme 105 plan will cost a rather steep $199.95 per month and come with a $249 “required” professional installation. Otherwise, those interested in seeing these speeds will need to get a new modem, which in this case will be an Arris WBM760. But on the positive side, Comcast will also thrown in a Netgear WNR3500 for no additional cost.

As for when this will be available, unfortunately for anyone hoping to move forward, that is not yet set in stone. Once again, according to the in-bill notification, it could begin “on or around June 1, 2010.” In the end, it would seem as if these in-bill notification messages that went out were a way to gauge interest. Also unknown is which markets this service would be available in, and perhaps more important is that given you are paying $200 a month — will you still be subject to the current data cap?

Not to mention, at this point Comcast was noted as stating that they “don’t have an announcement to make at this time.”

Personally, I could never pay $200 a month for one internet connection, though a 105Mbps download speed would be so nice to have. Click a link and its there.

When mentioning Comcast’s Extreme 105 Mbps @$199.00 and Cablevision’s Ultra @ 101 Mbps in the same breath be sure to keep in mind that Ultra is $99.00 a month. The 2 companies are not in competition with each other so all of the articles suggesting Extreme was being launched for “bragging rights” has no foundation.
