Aitek Teases 14 Megapixel Leo Smartphone [Aitek Says They Will Show Off the 14 Megapixel Leo Smartphone at Next Month's CommunicAsia in Singapore]

With most of the mobile handset industry is moving towards features like bigger touchscreens and beefier processors, Aitek is pushing that all aside and instead aiming at the photography oriented mobile market. What you see below are two recently released teaser images for one of their forthcoming handsets currently codenamed the the Leo.

As you can see, the device has a seemingly familiar candy bar form factor but what you’ll also notice is the monstrous camera nesting on its back. The reason it’s so big is because Aitek really isn’t messing around with their imaging sensors this time, actually managing to cram a 14 megapixel sensor into the Leo. For comparison, the current generation iPhone 3GS features a 3 megapixel sensor and the Droid Incredible features an 8 megapixel sensor.

Aitek has been keeping their lips pretty tightly sealed when it comes to specs for the phone as they plan to officially unveil it next month during the CommunicAsia show in Singapore, but that doesn’t mean we haven’t been able to get some info on the phone.

Not only does it feature the massive 14 megapixel camera with optical zoom, (presumably) LED flash, and the ability to record 720p HD video, but it also features WiFi and HSPA. There’s no way to officially tell what size the screen will be or what operating system it will be running, until it’s debut next month, but we’re going to go out on a limb and say it’ll be running Google’s Android as that is what our sources suggest.

Unfortunately, seeing as we have very little information about the device itself, we have even less information about its release date or price point. However, like we mentioned above, Aitek will be taking center stage at next month’s CommunicAsais show in Singapore which we’ll have extensive coverage of.

It’s funny because it seems like some of these phones are becoming cameras with a phone attached instead of the other way around.
