Zynga Teams Up With 7-Eleven For Real-life Food Products

Zynga To Release Farmville Slurpees & Mafia Wars Ice-creams in 7-Eleven Stores

If playing popular Zynga games like Farmville, Mafia Wars or Yoville make you hungry or thirsty, soon enough you can head to your nearest 7-Eleven store and grab a Zynga-related food product. This promotion is set to roll out June 1 in 7-Eleven stores across the U.S. and Canada. Zynga-branded game products are rumored to include Slurpees, chocolate bars and ice-creams.

Game developer Zynga is largely successful due to its popular games on Facebook, such as Farmville, Mafia Wars and Yoville. Zynga currently has 75 million active users, however, this number is down from 82 million from the start of the year. In an attempt to sustain users and attract new ones, Zynga has recently partnered with 7-Eleven to offer players real-life themed goods.

As part of the promotion, 7,000 7-Eleven stores across the U.S. and Canada will be offering around 30 Zynga-branded items, including Slurpees, chocolate bars, ice-creams, fruits, pizzas and other edible products. The products will be rolled out June 1 and will be available for six weeks.

The promotional products are also tied into the game. Already, players are seeing Neapolitan Cows on Farmville. In order to unlock a special item in the game, players would have to purchase a specially marked product from 7-Eleven. The product codes can also be exchanged for gifts on Zynga games like farm carts or bulletproof vests.  Now what was that about linking computer games to obesity?

Both companies Zynga and 7-Eleven are no strangers to once-off promotional marketing. 7-Eleven have partnered with established brands or movie studios in the past. For the Simpsons movie, 7-Eleven turned some of its stores to replicated the Kwik-E-Mart. Zynga has also incorporated some branded products into its games too.

Rita Bargerhuff, 7-Eleven vic president and chief marketing officer, commented that:

7-Eleven’s partnership with Zynga has launched one of the most unique campaigns in our company’s history. It gives millions of loyal fans, who regularly play Zynga games, access to incentives on more than 30 products in our stores. The Zynga universe of gamers is vast, and we knew we had to come up with a promotion fit for this demographic. Attracting millions of consumers to 7-Eleven stores with exclusive items for Zynga games creates an additional opportunity for them to try some of our newest products.

Vish Makhijani, senior vice president of business operations at Zynga referred to this opportunity as a “unique way for players to get the best social experience.”

Although the promotion will initially run in the U.S. and Canada, Zynga will be keen to expand this idea internationally, especially in Asia where Farmville has been a large success.

If you play any of Zynga games, let us know how you feel about this promotion. Will you be purchasing the products at 7-Eleven? Will this promotion make you play the games more often?
