Rock Band 3 to Feature Keyboards

Rock Band 3 Adds a New Instrument; Keyboards

First there was Guitar Hero released in 2005, a game that changed the video game industry forever. It featured a whole new gameplay concept that was only before seen by games like DDR but never release made its way into the spotlight. Ever since its initial release, the Guitar Hero franchise has become a household name of sorts seeing countless iterations (not to mention millions of dollars of spanning consoles from the PS2 and Nintendo DS to the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii.  Initially, the Gutiar Hero franchise was developed by Harmonix and published by RedOctane. However, after being purchased by Activision the developing deeds were passed off to Neversoft.

Luckily, Harmonix was not pushed out of the game completely, only away from the Guitar Hero franchise. After teaming up with MTV Games and EA, Harmonix came up with a title very similar to Guitar Hero but instead featuring more party oriented gameplay called Rock Band. Luckily, despite fierce competition from Guitar Hero, Rock Band saw a successful run with not only a direct sequel, Rock Band 2, but also The Beatles: Rock Band and Rock Band: Green Day.

The reason I’m telling you this is because the Rock Band: Green Day demo was recently released through Xbox Live and features a teaser image for the forthcoming Rock Band 3. Now, if you’ve played either of the first two games you’ll know that the Rock Band 3 logo, pictured abvoe, looks very similar to the previous games but there is a subtle yet very valuable easter egg featured in it. Can you see it?

The teaser image featured in the demo makes it very clear that Haromonix and MTV Games plan to add keyboards to Rock Band 3. This will be in addition to the guitars, drums and of course vocals already featured in the franchise. Now, Harmonix hasn’t come forth to officially announce the new peripheral so there is no telling if it will be an actual keyboard or a dumbed down version of the instrument, like the plastic guitar compared to the real guitar.
