Insomniac Games Working On Multiplatform Game With EA

Resistance Developer Joining EA Partners Program For New IP

Insomniac Games, once a PlayStation-only developer, is now expanding to multiple platforms, as they’ll be joining forces with EA and their EA Partners program on a new game series. Insomniac made the Spyro games on the original PlayStation, the Ratchet & Clank games on the PlayStation 2, and they made the launch-title shooter Resistance for the PlayStation 3.

Insomniac’s CEO Ted Price explained in a blog post that this new IP will be on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. EA’s EA Partners program, which allows EA to give publishing and distribution support to independent developers, is popular with independent developers because it allows them to maintain ownership of their properties. Some notable EA Partners published games include Rock Band, Half-Life 2 and Crysis.

But, Insomniac hasn’t cut ties with Sony. Price said in his blog posting that their relationship with Sony was still strong. They’ll still continue making new Ratchet & Clank and Resistance games, which’ll be exclusive for the PlayStation 3. Price also announced that they’re increasing the development time for their games. Insomniac has been releasing one game every year, in a industry where most triple-A games take two years (or more) of development time.

So, this year, we’re seeing Bungie making multiplatform games with Activison and Insomniac is making multiplatform games with EA. Who woulda thought?
