Google Nexus One Smartphone Begins Showing Up With Third Party Retailers

As Google Prepares To Close The Google Phone Store, The Nexus One Moves In With Other Retailers Such As iWireless

Back on May 14th, Google announced the news that they were closing up shop on their web phone store and sending the Nexus One off to be sold by others including carriers as well as third party retailers. Well, it seems as if that switch is underway and the Nexus One is now listed with third party retailer iWireless.

Initially that little bit sounded good, it almost made it seem as if the plan that Google had was coming out nicely. Well, it has in part, but there may be something of an issue and unfortunately that issue comes in regards to the price tag.

The Nexus One I am referring to is the T-Mobile compatible model, which was being sold for an on contract price of $179. Or off contract for $529. That $179 price is the one that is key here, mainly because that is what we have come to expect. Except in this case, the new listing over at iWireless is a bit higher.

In fact, the Nexus One is priced at $299.99, which comes as an on contract price and after a $50 mail in rebate. Thats almost double what Google had been selling it for. And just a little tip, if you were considering a T-Mobile compatible Nexus One, this may be a good time to make that purchase as the Google phone store is still open and more importantly still selling the Nexus One for $179.

One perk that seems to be coming with a purchase through iWireless includes that you can get any calling plan you choose and Google was requiring those that purchased the Nexus One to sign up for the Even More 500 plan. Still, I am not sure that is worth the much higher price tag on the phone itself.

Anyway, as of now this is just the first of what is likely to be at least a few carriers and retailers who end up selling the Nexus One. Now lets just hope that the iWireless price does not become the standard.
