Foxconn Employees Asked to Sign Non Suicidal Waiver [Foxconn is Urging Employees to Sign a Waiver That Says They Won't Commit Suicide or Sue if They Do]

Foxconn has been under an immense amount of heat from the media recently, not from the products they assemble (which are top notch) but instead about how their employees are being treated. If you’ve been following the topic you’ll know that Foxconn is one of the biggest employees in China with factories amassaing hundreds of thousands of employees. Well, in the recent past several employees have commited suicide.

Just today, reports of another employee committing suicide has come to light marking the 12th employee that has taken their own life in 2010. There hasn’t been much information released regarding the specifics of the death but we do know that it was a male. So what is a massive company to do when an alarming number of their employees are taking their own lives due to the reportedly terrible treatment they are receiving at these factories?

According to the company’s CEO Terry Gou they have recruited a dedicated team of specialists to make sure their employees have a place to vent their problems rather than resorting to a much more severe alternatetive. However, it seems that this newly recruitied team of specialists isn’t enough to secure the company and they are asking employees to sign yet another waiver.

When coming on board at one of these Foxconn plants, employees are already asked to sign several waivers, agreeing to things like an immense amount of overtime and not recieving anything more than minimum wage. The newest waiver that has been pushed out to all Foxconn employees, however, deals with all of the recent suicides that have been happening.

According to Shanghaist, who uncovered the new waiver, Foxconn is forcing employees to agree that they will not harm themselves or others and that they agree that the company is operating properly based against all government regulations. Essentially, they are saying don’t kill yourself and if you do, you can’t sue us.

What do you guys think? Is asking employees to sign this no suicide waiver really going to prevent additional suicidies? Let’s hope so before we see the Chinese Government step in.
