iPad WiBro (WiMAX) Tablet Coming to Korea Telecom? [South Korea Rumored to Get WiMAX-enabled iPad Thanks to KT & Apple]
It’s a little too early to talk about the next-generation iPad, which will surely arrive at some point in 2011, but it looks like one particular carrier is already negotiating with Apple about one such product.

The word on the street is that KT, a South Korean mobile operator is interested in offering a WiMAX-enabled tablet to its customers. KT doesn’t currently have any of the iPad versions available to date, the iPad Wi-Fi or the iPad Wi-Fi + 3G, but the carrier wants to offer them both to its subscribers. On top of that it looks like KT is also asking for the WiBro iPad, with WiBro being the Korean version of WiMAX.
KT is also apparently interested in launching a WiMAX iPhone is South Korea and rumors say that Apple’s upcoming iPhone 4G is also ready to deal with WiBro 4G bands.
Naturally these speculations, although coming to us all the way from South Korea, will never be confirmed by Apple or KT until Apple feels comfortable enough to announce such WiBro-friendly products.
Earlier today we’ve shown you a very strange rumor which was saying that Sprint is also supposed to get the iPhone later this year. So far we’ve only been talking about Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile iPhones while wondering how come Sprint isn’t starring any of these rumors.
Now that we hear that KT is interested in convincing Apple to make WiBro iPads and iPhones, a Sprint WiMAX iPhone would definitely make a lot of sense.
On the other hand there’s nothing to suggest which way Apple is heading when it comes to 4G technologies. Will the future iPhones be more LTE or WiMAX friendly? Or will Apple make sure it has both bases covered by making LTE and WiMAX iPhones and iPads in the very near future?
Steve Jobs is, naturally, going to present the official keynote on June 7, and hopefully at that time we’ll learn more about the future of the iPhone and thus the future of the iPad could also become a little clearer when it comes to 4G support.
