Motorola Droid 2 (Shadow) Coming From Verizon Soon? [First Leaks Suggest Verizon Will Launch the Motorola Droid 2 or Droid Shadow in the Near Future]

Verizon surely means business when it comes to Android smartphones and we all know Android just got a lot hotter with the announcement of Froyo. It will be really interesting to see what happens once the Verizon iPhone arrives; what mobile platform will become Verizon’s favorite?

In the mean time Verizon seems to want to keep launching one Android phone after the other and today we’re looking at the first leaks suggesting that the next Motorola Droid, the Motorola Droid 2 or the Motorola Droid Shadow is heading to Big Red.

Just recently Verizon announced not one but two interesting Android phones, the HTC Droid Incredible, which is already turning out to be everyone’s favorite, and the LG Ally, which, for some reason, is not yet ready to ship to early buyers.

So should Verizon launch a new Android device already? I mean the HTC Droid Incredible sales are still up so why launch a possible replacement already?

On the other hand it’s about time Motorola launched a worthy Droid/Milestone successor. Is the device in the picture above the Droid 2? Or the Droid Shadow?

Whatever it is, it apparently turned up somewhere on the cover of a Verizon manual. The device looks pretty similar to the first Droid but it’s not quite like it. It has a large touchscreen display, Motorola’s and Verizon’s logos are in place but the physical buttons are way smaller. Does it also hide a slide-out horizontal full QWERTY keyboard?

We could very well speculate on the specs and features of this thing but it’s way too early to do that since there are various rumors circling the forums and they don’t always coincide. What’s probably safe to assume is that this Motorola Droid (2) / (Shadow) is going to come with Android Froyo on board and a new Motoblur UI on top of it. Will it be the hottest Android phone available from Verizon? We’ll have to wait for more details about it and, since we did see various leaks with the Droid and Droid Incredible before their arrival, I am sure we’ll have more leaked stuff to look at in the following weeks.
