Google Nexus One Android Froyo Official Installation Instructions [Android Froyo Almost Ready for Your Nexus One; You Can Install It Alone & Here’s How]

Like anticipated, the Google Nexus One is going to be the first phone that’s going to receive Android Froyo. It’s not that surprising considering that the phone represents Google’s own vision on how an Android phone should look and feel like.

We showed you how to install the Android 2.2 Froyo SDK emulator on the Nexus One, we showed you the official Google Twitter updates saying the official Android Froyo update is coming and we also told you that some lucky Nexus One owners already got the new firmware.

Today we’re going to show you how to install the official Android 2.2 Froyo update on your Google Nexus One which means you don’t have to keep waiting for the update to arrive as you’ll do the whole upgrading alone.

Of course, if, for any reason, you don’t like playing with any kind of code, then leave the Nexus One alone and wait patiently for Google to roll the updates.

So here are the eight steps you should be paying attention to:

1. Download the Android 2.2 firmware for the Nexus One – here is the link to download
2. Rename the file update.zip and copy it to your microSD card via USB. [Note: make sure the file is named update.zip and not update.zip.zip.]
3. Power down your Nexus One
4. Hold down the “Volume Down” button as you power the phone back on.
5. A screen should appear showing your phone’s system searching for various files. Scroll down to “recovery” and press the “Power” button.
6. When you see the triangle with an exclamation point symbol, press the “Power” and “Volume Up” buttons at the same time.
7. From the menu that appears, select “Apply sdcard:update.zip.”
8. When the screen displays “Install from sdcard complete” select “reboot system now” and wait for the phone to power back up.

Let us know how it all works out for you, folks. Is Android Froyo as good in real life as it is on paper?

Froyo is better than on paper I love the small enhancements that didn’t make it to the keynote like the call log collapse very needed change. Love the new keyboard and Gmail II with one click account switch. Gr8 job Google.

I had a lack of lucidity for a few minutes and it was enough to try the update on my nexus one, but it failed at some pre-checks, no damage done but no froyo:
I re-transfered the file back to my PC to check its sha256sum:

    hello,

One quick question before i do this. Do I have to backup all the apps and all my information such as contacts, photos, messages, etc?
    Will they be deleted?

    Thanks. Great tutorial
