Pininfarina Unveils Nido Electric Car

Pininfarina Nido EV Will Lead To Larger Scale Electric Car Development Platform

Pininfarina has unveiled a new electric car and an electric vehicle platform that could be on the road in the near future, spear-heading the Italian auto manufacturer’s plans for the electric car market.  The Pininfarina Nido EV is both a 2-seater, small format electric car and a platform upon which other Pininfarina cars may be based in the future.

To launch the new platform, Pininfarina will release the Nido EV, a two-seater electric car with the size of a Smart Car but the electric heartbeat of a Tesla.  While it won’t have the pep or the range of a Tesla Roadster, it is an all-electric vehicle.  It can hit 60mph in 6.7 seconds and features a driving range of 87 miles per charge.  Nido achieves these stats as powered by a 30 kilowatt engine running on a 21kWh battery.

The Pininfarina Nido electric car and the subsequent Nido platform releases do not yet have a date of production.  The prototype itself, however, is an attractive design and a road-worthy vehicle on its own.  Expect more news on the Nido at auto shows later this summer.
