Nokia N8 Pre-Orders Available, Phone Coming on August 24
I’d really hate to be Nokia right now, especially after having seen what Android 2.2 Froyo, and iPhone OS 4.0 for that matter, can do. Symbian^3, the new flagship smartphone platform announced by Nokia at MWC 2010, doesn’t seem that interesting anymore.

Even back in February the next version of Symbian was overshadowed by Windows Phone 7 and it was pretty clear that Nokia doesn’t have what it takes yet to conquer this new smartphone market. And Nokia has been having a hard time coming up with a better smartphone for a couple of years now.
Take the Nokia N8 – an interesting device, the next flagship handset coming from Nokia and a device that was supposed to come a lot sooner – is now rumored to arrive in August. And it’s August 24 which is almost September. We thought it was supposed to be July but that apparently isn’t happening anymore.
By August, Apple and HTC will sell tons of iPhone 4G, HTC EVO 4G, HTC Droid Incredible units. Not to mention all the other Android handsets out there! Nokia will definitely miss a lot of action in the USA and probably other markets too.
Currently the phone is available on Amazon Germany for just €470 which is of course, the price to pay for an off contract device. A price that’s just €100 more than we expected. On the other hand you might end up buying an iPhone or Android phone by the time Nokia actually releases this beast so you really shouldn’t hurry to pre-order it just yet.
We really feel bad for Nokia not being able to come up with an iPhone competitor a little sooner. Such a device would definitely fight well against Android and Windows Phone 7 too later on but the N8 might just not be the handset we’re waiting for. I’d love to stand corrected in August when the N8 will apparently start selling in various markets, but I simply don’t see that happening yet.
Are you buying the N8?
