Apple’s “Get a Mac” Ad Campaign Gets the Axe; PC Is Happy

Apple Decides It’s Time to End “Get a Mac” Commercial Series; We Applaud the Decision

Let’s face it folks, the “Get a Mac” ads were not funny anymore. It all started like a funny, innocent, joke meant to show regular consumers that Macs performed better than PCs in various conditions. That was not a secret but not everyone was aware of the fact that although pricier, Macs were the more dependable machines.

Microsoft was never really able to counter these ads with something funny of their own and we were laughing at their expense for years. In the mean time Apple decided it was time to end the series and we couldn’t be happier. The last ads in the series weren’t that funny anymore and chances are they wouldn’t have gotten better anyway.

But why did Apple make such a decision? Is Windows 7 a too good opponent to make fun of? Has Apple run out of jokes? Or did they realize, at their own expense, that making fun of someone else’s technology isn’t as fun as they thought it was – remember how Apple made Ellen DeGeneres apologies to “Mr. Steve Jobs and Mr. Macintosh” just a while ago?

Justin Long, the actor that portrayed the “Mac” in those commercials did say recently that Cupertino was not going to continue with the ads and it looks like everything turned out to be right. In fact, the commercials aren’t even available on Apple’s website anymore, but luckily YouTube certainly has them all on file in case you want to see them again.

Instead Apple has a new page called “Why You’ll Love a Mac” in which it shows customers why Macs are better than PCs. And Apple feels that Macs are, simply put, better:

  • Better Hardware
  • Better Software
  • Better OS
  • Better Support
  • It’s Compatible

But something tells me Apple will not stop airing Mac commercials so we’re really curios to see what it plans for the future.
