Palm App Catalog Hit With Bug
webOS may be a critically acclaimed OS (that HP is crazy about), but webOS users had some issues with the mobile operating system last weekend when they couldn’t install paid or free apps purchased from the Palm App Catalog. The bizarre bug has been fixed, and was apparently related to the time-and-date in webOS.

Users who got apps from the Palm App Catalog were rudely greeted with “Install Failed” after a new app had just been downloaded. Palm was aware of the issue very quickly and assured users that they were working on a solution. The folks at PreCentral discovered a workaround – but it was a case of the cure being worse than the virus (for some).
The workaround involved turning off network time and setting the time and date manually on your Palm device to before May 10th. That would allow the apps to finish downloading and install. However, since this involved messing with your calendar, it was probably undesirable to most.
Thankfully, Palm quickly fixed the problem. If you tried to install a paid or free app from the App Catalog this weekend and were met with the “Install Failed” dialog, here’s Palm’s solution:
The App Catalog is now working properly.
If you have any applications that failed to install during this time period, for each one:
1 – Open App Catalog, then tap the shopping bag icon.
2 – From the list, tap the app that failed to install (indicated by yellow triangle)
3 – From the app info screen, tap the “install failed” banner at the bottom
4 – Tap the “Try Again” button at the “Couldn’t Install” dialogue prompt
You may now return to enjoying your applications.
