Nvidia Shows off Android Powered Tablet [Nvidia Shows Everyone What Android On a Tablet is Capable Of]

Perhaps you want one of those fancy new tablet computers but the iPad just isn’t tickling you in the way that such a device should? Does the lack of Flash, USB ports or a respectable amount of RAM have you shaking your fists in fury at Steve Jobs? Well love it or hate it the iPad has definitely proved itself with high sales numbers so the market for these tablet computers has been made apparent.

Google’s Android, in contrast to the modified iPhone OS powering the iPad, has proven itself to be a worthwhile competitor on several tablets in the past. Nvidia, on the other hand, has been an immensely familiar graphics hardware manufacturer since the ’90s. Pair the two together and you get this Android Tegra 2 powered tablet that Gizmodo recently got their hands on, pictured above.

Hardware wise, this device arguably blows the iPad out of the water with an 8.9-inch capacitive Nvidia’s TEGRA 2, a dual core ARM Cortex 9, 1GB of RAM, 2 USB ports, and a front-facing camera. The iPad on the other hand has Apple’s A4 processor, 256MB of RAM, only Apple’s proprietary connector and no cameras whatsoever.

If Nvidia is able to keep the price down on this device, whenever they decide to bring it to market, they could really have something on their hands. The iPad, which starts at $499, may still be a bit too high for some consumers but if Nvidia were to price this around the $200 dollar mark and had the apps to prove it’s capabilities, Apple may really get a run for their money. I’m sure Google’s rumored eBook store would be a great pair for one of these tablets.

Although a good majority of people who are actually purchasing the iPad are bound to be huge Apple fans so we’ll have to wait and see if other tablets can co-exist with it.
