iPhone OS 4 Beta 4 Hints at iPad & iPod Touch Cameras with LED Flash [iPhone 4 Beta 4 Code Contains Flash Modules for Future iPad & iPods, Now we Just Need the Hardware]
What with a couple of incidences – namely an iPod Touch Ebay listing and a purported iPod Touch prototype appearing in Vietnam – having served to underpin the widely held belief that the next iteration of the iPod Touch will indeed feature an integrated camera along comes further evidence, thanks to iPhone OS 4 Beta 4, that a camera equipped iPod Touch and, indeed, a camera touting iPad are either in the works or, at the very least, are being catered for in terms of future developments.

In fact, there’s little doubt at this juncture that the next iteration of the iPod Touch will indeed pack a camera (this is unconfirmed, of course, but no one in their right mind would bet against it in light of recent developments, leaks, et al) but until now things were a little hazy concerning whether we could expect integrated flash. Now it appears that we can indeed expect to see LED flash integrated into future iPods, the iPhone and, yes, even new iterations of the iPad as iPhone OS 4 Beta 4 includes a flash module that covers all three devices.

Of course, just because Apple have the module in place in iPhone OS 4 Beta 4 this doesn’t mean that we can be certain of seeing LED flash integrated in the next iterations of Apple’s handheld devices – should imagery purporting to show the up and coming iPod Touch, as linked above, transpire to be founded it should be noted that there’s no actual evidence of as flash being integrated in the device as yet (our header image is for illustration only) – but what it does confirm is that Apple at least have cater for future models with flash – now, of course, all we need is the hardware that’ll utilise said modules.

Interestingly, and aside from the future inclusion of onboard flash being catered for, the code behind iPhone OS 4 Beta 4 also makes reference to Mac OS 10.7 which surely hints that Mac OS 10.7 is set to be released sometime within iPhone OS 4 lifetime or, at the very least, that Apple have this particular base also covered.
