Google I/O: Apple Targeted by Google & Partners a Bunch of Times; We Want Replies

Google Takes Poked Apple Every Chance It Got During Google I/O. How Will Apple Respond?

Having fully watched both Google I/O keynotes that were conveniently live streamed on YouTube I can honestly say that Day 2 was a lot more interesting than Day 1. Sure yesterday we’ve seen Google uncover some interesting concepts and products but today it really shined and there’s no doubt about it.

While Google TV is yet to convince me to watch more TV, Android 2.2 Froyo is really the way to go when it comes to Android smartphones. And Apple should be worried as Google’s latest Android feature might just be hotter than the last iPhone OS version.

And Apple took some hits today during the keynote and we definitely didn’t miss any of them and we’re definitely waiting for a proper response from Cupertino at WWDC 2010.

First of all Google said that they simply had to come up with Android in order to prevent “one company”, “one man” and “one carrier” to control the world. That’s definitely a hit at Apple and its partners when it comes to the “draconian” future envisioned by Google without Android around.

Then Google rubbed Android’s performance in Apple’s face. When it comes to web traffic generated by Android devices and Android sales, Google clearly said that it surpassed Apple.

Moving on to browsing speeds, Google clearly mocked Apple’s iPad in browser tests – “How about that iPad?” – while also bringing a new feature to Android Froyo which is the mobile hotspot. Unfortunately AT&T customers still can’t tether their phone.

Then Google showed us Flash 10.1 on Android while saying that giving Adobe a chance was “much nicer than just saying no.” More importantly Adobe’s CEO was one of Eric Schmidt’s guests at the end and he was introduced as being a very popular man due to the recent Flash-related events.

Google didn’t stop there as it brought us Wi-Fi Sync capabilities for Android apps and iTunes music. Definitely a great feature. And yes, I spelled Wi-Fi Sync intentionally that way. That’s the name of an app rejected by Apple recently, an app that would do exactly the above.

Last, but not least, Sony’s CEO said that “when you beat Apple, you’re dominating” referring to the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 success in Japan. Just a heads up, Sir Howard, the Xperia X10 will only bring Android 2.1 to its customers in Q4 2010. That’s not how you dominate anything really and you’ll see that later down the road when angry mobs will ask for Android 2.2 Froyo on the X10. Not defending Apple on this one since they can do that for themselves but Sony Ericsson is not in a position to make fun of anyone just yet.

So yes, Google came out triumphant over Apple today when it comes to mobile platforms, not to mention that Google TV looks a lot better than the Apple TV. Will Apple be able to keep up with Google? Well they better should. We don’t want just one company to dominate the world, but we’d need a few of them to share it. Microsoft, what are you doing these days?
