Verizon iPhone Rumors Say Simultaneous Voice & Data Available on CDMA iPhone [AT&T Defends Exclusivity Deal with Apple, Not Worried About the Verizon iPhone Threat]
With all the details we currently have on the next-gen iPhone, we can’t but wonder if a CDMA device is coming from Apple anytime soon. According to various leaked reports, Apple is building no less than 10 million CDMA iPhones but nobody can confirm that at this point.

Furthermore it looks like Verizon insiders are ready to tell us that the Verizon iPhone will offer use simultaneous voice and data capabilities not that we’d really interested in getting such a feature. I mean, come on, how many times did you really have to keep talking while also browsing the web for an extensive period of time? Sure that might happen every now and then but it’s not a must-have feature like copy and paste or multitasking. Or Flash support.
But such a feature will put Verizon on par with AT&T as the later has been offering simultaneous voice and data support for iPhone owners for a long time. Too bad AT&T’s network wasn’t able to sustain the iPhone as such a smartphone deserved.
But AT&T is not worried about a Verizon threat or at least it’s decided to bluff us into believing that. Well, AT&T should be worried as a Verizon iPhone 4G will probably sell a lot better and a lot faster than an AT&T iPhone 4G.
AT&T’s CEO, Ralph de la Vega, believes that customers will stick with AT&T even if the exclusivity deal expires. While not revealing when this will happen, the CEO said that 80% of AT&T iPhone customers are on family or business plans and they’ll probably stay with the company. No matter if that’s true that doesn’t mean that non-AT&T customers will choose AT&T’s iPhone once a Verizon alternative is out there. And those 20% remaining customers could go to Verizon and so could other AT&T smartphone owners looking to get an iPhone for the first time.
At least once Verizon starts selling the iPhone AT&T will be even more motivated to improve the quality of its network and services and come back stronger than before. So a CDMA iPhone isn’t necessarily bad news for AT&T as its network will get a breather following the inevitable loss of subscribers that would otherwise hog the carrier’s data network.
There’s one more thing that AT&T doesn’t seem to consider right now. From what we already know the iPhone 4G will be significantly better than the iPhone 3GS and the iPhone 3G. Unlike the iPhone 3GS which didn’t bring so many changes the forth-gen iPhone is a lot hotter. That means more people will want to get the phone, and they’ll be happy to be able to choose between the number one and number two carrier in the USA. Not such a great time to lose iPhone exclusivity, is it AT&T?
Let’s hear your comments! Verizon or AT&T?
