Google Android Smartphones’ Batteries Should Last a Day, Says Google

Google Blames Apps for Eating Away Precious Battery Juice, Not Android

Google’s I/O official keynotes are coming soon, hopefully ready to reveal brand new products, but it looks like Google had some things to clear up before its event this week.

Apparently Google felt it needed to address a certain issue with Android smartphones which is battery life after receiving related questions from the crowd gathered at Google Zeitgeist. According to Google, Android handsets should have good enough batteries to last you through the day. If that doesn’t happen then it’s your apps to blame not Android.

That’s not a very nice excuse, is it Google? After all without apps, what would one do with a smartphone these days? And you clearly know that it wouldn’t be that much useful since the Android Market is being advertised as “ever-expnding” and therefore the main App Store alternative out there right now. Telling people that it’s the apps that drain battery life, not Android, even if true, is like telling them they shouldn’t download any apps in order to have the phone last through the day.

Instead of doing that we’d expect Google to tell us how next Android versions, including Froyo 2.2 will be even more battery-friendly in order for us to be able to use as many apps as we’d like. Furthermore your partners that make the phones for you could find ways to include bigger batteries. And yeah, Android developers should figure out ways to prevent their apps from draining that battery life faster than supposed to.

Apple, as we know by now, is doing that with the new iPhone. And you know why? It’s because all those apps iPhone users install on their handsets are draining the battery of the iPhone. But you wouldn’t hear Apple blaming the apps for that. They’re trying to sell as many of them as possible while also trying to address the battery issues from a different angle.

To be fair we’ll also add that Google also said, although not in a very serious tone, that a bigger battery could solve things, but it’s not like they’re actually making the phones.
