Cameron Predicts 3D Will Be Video Standard [Avatar Super Director Predicts All Video, Including From Computers, Will Be Online In Less Than 25 Years]
Although everybody you talk to has absolutely no interest in 3D outside of the cinema, both TV and movie producers, along with TV manufacturers are absolutely 3D crazy. And the man who set it off (or at least added fuel to the fire) with his mega-popular (and admittedly awesome) 3D film Avatar, James Cameron, is making some bold predictions about 3D.

James Cameron spoke at the Seoul Digital Forum in South Korea, a gathering for technology types. During his talk, Cameron compared the “3D renaissances” as being on the same level as sound being added to silent movies, and color being added to black-and-white movies. He said that 3D isn’t just a fad this time (like it was in the 1950′s)
Cameron expects that 3D will be ‘the’ standard for video, both in TV, movies and yes, even online video and other consumer electronics, in less than 25 years.
While the idea of a 3D iPhone might sound insane, don’t forget that Nintendo announced the Nintendo 3DS, a 3D-capable version of their popular Nintendo DS gaming hand held. It’s set to come out next year. With products like that coming out, the idea of 3D cell phones is a little more believable – and you know some engineer in Japan is already working on 3D tech for phones.
When speaking on how long this revolution will take, Cameron said longer than “a couple of years”, but “definitely less than the 25 years it took color movies.” Cameron did say that the content makers prevent consumers from having a 3D backlash, and he’s going to help by producing high-quality 3D content like the Avatar sequel, which he says will becoming… in just 3 years.
What do you think about Cameron’s ideas? Will you be reading TFTS in 3D in 2035?
