Paid PSN Rumors Start Up Again [Rumors Of "Premium" PSN At E3 Upsetting PlayStation 3 Faithful]

Sony’s been considering charging for PSN for a while now. Sony Computer Entertainment boss Kaz Hirai even confirmed this with Gamespot some time ago in an interview, saying that while all current PSN features will remain free, they’ll charge for premium features. That was last year, and now we may hear about these premium features at E3.

One bulletpoint for the PS3 in it’s ‘battle’ with the Xbox 360 is the fact that its online gaming platform is free whereas Xbox gamers are forced to play $50 a year if they want to play online with their friends. Last November, we learned from a leaked internal Sony powerpoint that they were planning to charge for the PSN network. As mentioned, Hirai confirmed this and Sony VP Peter Dille later said that they were “thinking about it”.

According to rumors being reported around the web, Sony ‘may’ unveil a premium tier to PSN at E3, next month. As mentioned earlier, this ‘premium tier’ paid service will not take away any features current PSN users already enjoy for free. (To repeat, for those who like leaving comments but don’t read the whole article) I said, the paid service will not take away any features current PSN users already enjoy for free.

While this current rumor hasn’t offered what features would be included in the premium tier, we’ve seen suggested in the past that perhaps cross-game voice chat could be one of the features included in a premium tier. Fudzilla has suggested that Sony may give away free PSN games to “premium tier” subscribers.

Other sites have said that some rumors say that you will get one free game a month from a selection of games.

The only way I would pay for this would be if it include some sort of video rental offer.

I would pay 30-40 bucks a year for this.
