Alleged PSP 2 Specs Leak [New Rumor Says That PSP 2 Will Have Cell Processor, Touchscreen, 3G Modem]
A website is reporting from a video game industry contact that the rumored Sony PSP 2 won’t be unveiled at the upcoming E3 show, as earlier rumored, but will be coming later this year. In addition to that later date, we also learned some of it’s rumored specs, and if true, it’s quite the handheld.

Website VG247 is reporting these rumors, and it makes the new PSP 2 sound very smartphone-like. Here’s the run down on what they’re saying about the hardware.
- Two cameras, one front facing.
- Touchscreen, but will still have the recognizable PlayStation buttons
- No physical media is very likely, and it ‘could’ be 3G enabled.
- It’s “[explicative] powerful”, according to the source, who says the PSP 2 will run a four-core variant of the eight-core Cell (!) processor found in the PS3.
They’ve heard that various British developers have gotten their hands on prototypes for game development. According to those anonymous developers, the PSP 2 was set to be released this year, but been pushed back next year.
The source went on to tell VG247 not to expect it at E3. Judging by the timeline that these developers are working on, they expect the handheld to be unveiled later in the year, at Games Convention in Germany, or at the Tokyo Game Show.
It almost sounds too good to be true, honestly, though all the specs are certainly within the realm of possibility. The most questionable thing in my opinion is the 3G rumor. The E3 rumors makes some sense. Sony has the PlayStation Move coming out this fall – they want all developer and media attention on that.
As with any of these rumors, take them with a mound of salt as there is no way to verify their accuracy at this time.
