Project Emerald: T-Mobile Android Sidekick Phone, So Say the Elves & the Dwarfs

Unconfirmed Rumors Say T-Mobile Will Launch Android Sidekick-like Handset; Project Emerald Is the Name

Most of you will probably recall the whole commotion around a certain T-Mobile project back in October. Dubbed as Project Black or Project Dark, the project in question was thought to be a T-Mobile iPhone but unfortunately nothing like that happened. Now we have a new T-Mobile secret endeavor entitled Project Emerald. Will this be any more fun?

Project Black brought some new T-Mobile plans and at the end of the day we were pretty disappointed not to have seen T-Mobile make any important announcement that would reshape the company and the direction it was heading.

This time around Project Emerald will not get our hopes up like Project Black did, but it too is rumored to be pretty interesting. Again we’re talking about a phone, and it’s not a T-Mobile iPhone but an Android device. T-Mobile is of course the first carrier in the world that made a name for itself with Android handsets and we’re not exactly surprised to hear they’re preparing to launch a new one.

What’s even more interesting is that the Android handset in question seems to be a Sidekick-like device. You all know how popular the Sidekick line became over the years and an Android Sidekick phone sounds like a great idea.

Add to that the fact that HTC is rumored to make the new Sidekick and you’ll end up with a great Android smartphone/featurephone. While there’s nothing official about the phone just yet, word on the street is the phone will come with specs and features like a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, front-facing camera, 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display, 16GB of onboard memory and Android 2.1.

We do have one word of caution, though, for T-Mobile. Remember those Sidekick issues you guys had last year? Hopefully that’s solved for good and this new Sidekick will never go through similar issues.

The phone is supposed to arrive this summer and until then we’ll be waiting for the dwarfs and elves working on Project Emerald to come forward with more details since last time we asked for their help they did tell us more about Project Dark.
