HTC Beating RIM, Motorola

New Report Says That HTC Is Making Huge Gains, Beating Out Other Phones At Major Carriers

I’ve been a long time fan of HTC’s handsets. They’ve been awesome but hampered by Windows Mobile, which is nothing to get excited about. Their trend towards Android is though, and their recent Android phones are really pushing the Taiwan company to success with American mobile customers.

HTC is really getting out there in the public mindset with the HTC Incredible, HTC EVO 4G and Nexus One. T. Michael Walkley, an analyst at Piper Jaffray wrote in a report that made news today that HTC was making strong gains in North America with the HTC Incredible.

He estimates that the HTC Incredible, combined with the HTC Hero and T-Mobile myTouch 3G (made by HTC) are making HTC good money in the United States. Walkley adds that the HTC Incredible is taking away Verizon market share of their Motorola Droid.

Walkley continues:

We believe consumers overwhelmingly selected HTC based Android and Windows Mobile based devices due to its customizable UI, processing power with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 1 GHz processor and sleek designs. [...] We believe the Bold 9700 continued to lose smartphone share at AT&T following a price increase last month to $199. Further, our checks indicated further share losses to Android products at T-Mobile and Verizon.

Last month, I wrote about an interview with HTC’s CEO Peter Chou where he said that their growth in the US was faster than any other brand – quite the achievement for the Taiwanese brand vs. big competitors like Nokia and Motorola. Chou also said that T-Mobile US finally started treating HTC like a “first-tier supplier”.

Both HTC and Motorola suffered losses due to Windows Mobile.

Both HTC and Motorola experienced sales increases after they ditched Microsoft’s Windows Mobile, and switched to Google’s Android.

Most of HTC’s best selling phones are Android models.
