Steam for Mac Now Officially Available, Portal Free Until May 24

You can’t say you’re really surprised to see Valve make Steam for Mac official, can you? The gaming platform was supposed to be available since April but Valve postponed the launch until May 12.

It looks like all that extra testing Valve needed paid off in the end as the Steam for Mac portal is now open to anyone with an Apple computer and a strong desire to play some very hot games. And Valve took its time to bring its gaming platform to Macs, a platform that was available only to PC owners for the last six years or since Valve announced it back in 2004.

Speaking about portals you must remember one of Valve’s most popular games out there, Portal! Well, Portal is now available to download on your Mac until May 24 so you have almost two weeks to get the game. In case you have already played it then you still should get it while you wait for Valve to release Portal 2 later this year.

Other than Portal there are 63 games and gamepacks available for Mac computers through Steam. And while some of the games available on Steam for Mac aren’t worth mentioning, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to find some very interesting titles out there: Sid Meier’s Civilization IV and other games from the series, Football Manager 2010, Torchlight, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade or Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.

Valve will launch new games for Mac every Wednesday for the next few weeks so you will surely have plenty of hot gaming action coming to your Apple computer.

This week every game available on Steam for Mac will feature Steam Play. That means that all the games you purchase on Steam for Mac now will be available to you in all the other Steam supported platforms.
