LG & Verizon Wireless Get Official With The Android Based Ally Smartphone
It looks as if the leaked Verizon Wireless Launch Package that we saw yesterday was entirely accurate, because as of just a few minutes ago Verizon Wireless and LG offered up a press release detailing the LG Ally. In short, the LG Ally will be available for pre-order on May 13th and available for purchase on May 20th.

In terms of pricing, expect to pay $99.99. Except that comes with a slight catch. Of course, you have most likely guessed that means a two year commitment with Verizon, but more importantly is that the $99.99 price tag comes after a mail in rebate. Yup, the LG Ally comes attached to a $100 mail in rebate, which means you will be paying $199.99 in the store and then filling out a rebate form.
But moving past the annoying mail in rebate and onto the specs. And I must admit, the LG Ally does have a certain appeal. If nothing else, this should serve well for those looking for an Android handset with a hardware QWERTY keyboard. More specifically, it has a 4-row slide-out keyboard with a 4 way navigation pad off to the right hand side.
Otherwise, we have seen the features before, but as always we can offer a little recap which should keep you from having to dig through older posts.
- Android OS 2.1
- A silver and black “ergonomic” design
- 3.2 inch (800 x 480) tempered glass touchscreen display
- microSD card slot with support for cards up to 16GB in size
- Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n
- Bluetooth 2.1 with support for headset, hands-free, object push as well as audio/visual remote control, file transfer, phonebook access and more
- 3.5mm headphone jack
- Proximity sensor
- S-GPS with Google Maps Navigation
- 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus, 4x zoom, flash and video recording
Other features include a 600MHz MSM7627 processor, 512MB ROM, 256MB RAM and a 4GB microSD card pre-installed.
And that just about sums up the LG Ally, talk about a phone that had lots of leaks, but rest assured this is all official and you can place your pre order as of tomorrow.
