Verizon Android Tablet Confirmed for Later This Year; iPad Beware!

Verizon & Google to Work on Android Tablet Even if the iPhone 4 Comes to Big Red or Not

Earlier today we were showing you a very hot rumor which was basically saying that an advertising agency is already working on the iPhone 4/4G/HD for Verizon. In other words people are more and more convinced that Steve Jobs will launch a CDMA iPhone in the very near future, possibly at WWDC 2010.

Whether that happens or not, it looks like Verizon is definitely interested in improving its relationship with Google and what better way to do that than to announce an upcoming Android tablet ready to take the iPad to town.

And this isn’t just another rumor! We already know that Google plans to launch an Android tablet at some point down the road so why not partner up with Verizon, and any other worldwide carrier, that wishes to sell it to its subscribers?

Furthermore it looks like Verizon’s CEO, Lowell McAdam is determined to work with Google on said Android tablet, so we’re really looking forward to see how this partnership is going to evolve. McAdam said that tablets are the “next big wave of opportunities” and apparently Verizon is determined to compete against AT&T with a tablet of its own. The CEO added:

We’re looking at all the things Google has in its archives that we could put on a tablet to make it a great experience.

It’s too early to tell how the Verizon Android tablet will look like or who’s going to make it. We don’t have any specs and features yet and there are no arrival dates either. We can only hope that once Google I/O gets underway, some of the execs present at the event can shed some more light on the matter.

The iPad is currently selling like hot cakes and it certainly needs some serious competition. But I am afraid it will take a while until the first competitive Android and Windows 7 tablets start selling in stores. Will Verizon and Google be able to offer us a real winner? You know, the kind of iPad rival we’re already waiting for?
