New Verizon & Sprint Android 2.1 Update Details Available
We have extensively covered the Android 2.1 update situation for both Verizon and Sprint here on TFTS. So far it looks like Big Red is doing a lot better at actually making the new OS to its subscribers but Sprint is working hard on it too.

Today we have more details for both Verizon and Sprint Android 2.1 updates so let’s look at them chronologically since it seems that both carriers are going to roll them this month.

First off we have Verizon whose HTC Droid Eris is waiting for Android 2.1 to arrive. From the screenshot above we’re getting the impression that Droid Eris owners should finally get the Android 2.1 firmware today, May 11. We’ve seen plenty of similar screenshots to know better than to trust them immediately but, on the other hand, Verizon has already announced plenty of Droid Eris Android 2.1 details last week. We’ll be waiting for your thoughts on the matter, Verizon Droid Eris owners, later today as we’re really interested to see if everything will work smoothly for you.

Then we have Sprint who has not one but two fairly hot Android handsets, the HTC Hero and the Samsung Moment. So far we knew that the Android 2.1 update Sprint subscribers are waiting for is coming in Q2, but today we found an actual date, May 21. Just as before we’re solely relying on the screenshot above, and we all know how many Sprint screenshots we’ve shown you in the recent weeks advertising a potential Android 2.1 firmware update. This time around the leaked screen above says that only the HTC Hero will be getting Android 2.1 on Friday, May 21, so we’ll be really curios to see if this one turns out to be true or not.
We’ve already shown you a first screenshot and video of Android 2.2 Froyo in action earlier today, and, from the looks of it, Froyo could be launched well before some current Android handsets get the Android 2.1 upgrade.
