T-Mobile MyTouch 3G Slide Officially Announced

Keyboard-Carrying MyTouch Variant Coming Soon

This should absolutely be no surprise to anybody who follows the smartphone market, but the Slider variant of the T-Mobile MyTouch 3G has been made official after a few months of rumors and blurry spy photos. The device is coming this June.

T-Mobile begun selling the HTC Magic as the T-Mobile MyTouch 3G last July. They spent a fortune on marketing the device and it’s reportedly been selling well. Because the phone appeals to the young super-texter crowd (so I’m told), rumors started up that T-Mobile and HTC were looking at a slider QWERTY model.

We saw a few blurry spy photos of this phone last month, and, al la, here it is. T-Mobile officially announced the device. We don’t know anything about pricing, but it is coming in June (original rumors had it coming this month).

The official stats, as reported by T-Mobile, are the 3.4-inch touchscreen, Android 2.1 OS, 5-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi and 3G. In typical HTC engineering style, the slide-out keyboard isn’t adding much to the girth of the device as it’s just 15mm thick.

Nothing yet on if foreign markets can expect a slider HTC Magic outside the US. Vodafone has an exclusivity contract to carry the HTC Magic in their home territories, so keep eyes on them.
