Samsung Android S-Pad Coming In August?

Korean publication Etnews is reporting that come late summer, tech giant Samsung will be releasing a “S-Pad”, a byproduct of their “S-Project” which set out to create exciting new tablet products. If you care to believe them, the S-Pad will be running on Android and will have an OLED (!) screen.

The tablet will be a reported 7-inches, and as aforementioned, will use Samsung’s “Super” OLED technology, which they say is even better than regular OLED technology. As awesome as a seven-inch OLED screen sounds, it will be expensive. It will use Android (not Bada OS, though this was allegedly discussed internally in Samsung) and will use a modification of the UI used in Samsung’s Galaxy and Galaxy S Android phones.

For connectivity, it will use both WiFi and 3G, with 3G provided by ‘SK Telecom’, at least in Korea. It will use an iPad-like dock and will have an eBook store provided by Kyobo Books (Korea’s largest book retailer). Apps will be sold via ‘Samsung Apps’, their apps store, but since it’s Android, expect a bit more freedom than the iPad.

Nothing was announced on a price, but, per above, it’ll be high with that huge OLED screen. So far, it appears like it’ll only be a Korea-only release in August, if the rumors are to be believed. If Samsung can get a good UI together, and the app store is decent, this could be a solid iPad competitor. Of course, it’s missing the black Apple logo on the back…
