Boost Mobile Offers New Plans, Samsung Rant

Sprint's Fastest Growing Prepaid Service Gains New Phones, Plans

Boost Mobile is Sprint-Nextel’s prepaid subsidiary. They offer prepaid plans only and are aimed at a younger, hipper crowd. As our controversial report on Sprint-Nextel said, Boost Mobile is actually the only part of Sprint gaining new customers every quarter while their main postpaid contract customers are fleeing like rats on a sinking ship. To help compound their popularity, Boost Mobile is offering some new plans and a new phone.

On the new plans, Boost Mobile’s “Unlimited Everything” plan for a monthly fee of $50 now includes unlimited calling to 411 (information) as well as unlimited e-mail to their already unlimited voice, text and data plan. This echos what they’ve done with the plans on Sprint. Sprint, as it’s been shedding customers, recently unveiled their “Simply Everything” plan which includes everything for $70. These are actually fairly appealing plans, but I’m guessing most of you won’t like the fact that it’s an iDEN network. (Edit: Some phones run on Sprint’s CDMA network)

For Boost Mobile BlackBerry users, they’re offering the same service, except with the BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) for another modest $60. As for their new phone, they’ve snagged a US exclusivity contract with Samsung to bring the new Samsung Rant to their network.

The Samsung Rant includes a 2-megapixel camera, 3G connectivity, a slider QWERTY keypad, aGPS, and a microSD card. It’s coming to Boost Mobile this May 19th for $149.99, sans contract.

      This is a awsome phone!
      I heard it comes in blue does it?

    2. Daniel says:

      This article is partially incorrect. Boost Mobile sells both iDen and CDMA phones. The Blackberry 8330 and Samsung Rant are both Boost Mobile phones that run on the CDMA (Sprint) Network.

      @Daniel

      Fixed.

    4. Daniel says:

      Thanks Kevin! I agree the biggest fault of the Boost Mobile brand was using the iDen network. Sprint’s CDMA network is pretty solid though. I think the phones that use Sprint’s network for this price range is an excellent deal.

      I hope in the near future Sprint phases out the iDen side and focuses the Boost Mobile branding running on CDMA. This seems like the route they may be going though as the newer phones are CDMA ones and the marketing seems to be focused more on the CDMA lineup now.

      I have just been bought a Rant phone as a gift which will arrive next week to use with Boost but when I looked at it it is saying Sprint will it work on Boost? I am kinda concerned now
