AT&T Unlimited Data Plan For The iPad Gets Put To The Test [Is The Unlimited Data Plan For The iPad Truly Unlimited? One Guy Intends To Find Out, Uses 30+ GB So Far With Plans To Hit 100GB]
With the release of the 3G equipped iPad we have seen numerous hands on reports of people signing up for service, and the process of signing up is indeed easy. More important though is which service plan you choose, because after all, you have the 250MB plan for $14.99 a month or the “unlimited” plan for $29.99 a month. This post is in regards to the unlimited plan and just how unlimited it really is.

First and foremost, that plan was originally described by AT&T as being truly unlimited, however as many smartphone users know, there is generally a soft cap at the 5GB mark. I guess one way to find out for sure, well, either find out or get hit with a cut off notice.
But regardless, Zack Epstein from Know Your Cell is well under way in testing the unlimited claim. So far he has received over 31GB of data. And as anyone familiar with numbers can agree, 31 is much higher than 5. In any case, AT&T has yet to cut him off as a result of his experiment.

His goal? Initially it looks like it was to reach 100GB.
“If I can hit 100GB without being shut off by AT&T, I think it will be safe to say that users can consider the $29.99 iPad data plan to be “unlimited”. Considering I’m currently at six times the 5GB soft cap placed on smartphone data plans after just two days of usage, things are looking good.”
Of course, plans change and the experiment has since come to an end. Still 31 plus GB of transfer in just a few days is way more than most people could dream of using. And with that AT&T did not cut him off, I guess the plan truly is unlimited.
In the end though, this experiment was indeed interesting, but what I find appealing is the fact that he was able to push over 31GB of data in such as short time.
