Acer Leaks Mobile AMD Three-Core Processors
You might expect a smaller manufacturer like Eurocom to accidentally leak unannounced computer parts, but not a Triple-A manufacturer like Acer. The Taiwanese tech giant has broken the NDA regarding some triple-core processors from AMD coming soon to their mobile computers.

Early listings for Acer’s Aspire 7551G and 5551G notebooks reveal that they’ll come with a triple-core AMD Phenom X3 N830 processor, which will have a speed of 2.1Ghz. Although AMD’s multi-core processors really have nothing speedwise on Intel’s chips, it’s worth noting that AMD is selling their chips for a(n almost shocking) low price.
Similar Acer laptops with AMD’s quad cores are about €150 ($195) cheaper than the comparable notebook with an Intel Core i7 processor, Fudzilla reports. Likewise, Acer’s notebooks powered by tri-core processors are coming in between €600-€700 ($778-$908), considerably lower than the Intel equivalent.
So, while it appears that AMD can’t compete with Intel in raw processing horsepower, they’re instead playing the price game and trying to appeal to lower-end consumers who don’t care (as much) about processor power.
Amazon.de is the ones listing the new Acer computers early, and they’re saying that the new Acer laptops are ready for shipping within 1 to 4 weeks. You can get your hands on a mobile AMD tri-core processor then.
