Asus EeeKeyboard PC Becomes Official A Year Too Late

Asus Finally Announces the EeeKeyboard But We Want Tablets Now

The Asus EeeKeyboard PC was one of the most interesting products of CES 2009. It all seems such a long time ago but that’s when this product was actually first showcased. Since then we kept waiting for Asus to start selling it and, almost a year and a half later, the product has been finally properly announced.

The Asus EeeKeyboard is no longer that unicorn portable computer that could be easily turned into a HTPC. It’s a real device that’s waiting for you and I to purchase it. Unfortunately for Asus in the mean time a new animal was reinvented in the gadget jungle. The tablet has been redesigned thanks to Apple and now everyone wants an iPad or a tablet even if it’s not really a must have device.

The EeeKeyboard PC is a “a fully-functional PC concealed within a svelte and stylish keyboard” but we already knew that since CES 2009. What took Asus this long to launch it? Should we assume that the Eee Pads we’ve talked about earlier will also take a long time to make it to stores after they get revealed at Computex 2010?

The EeeKeyboard is a lightweight PC that only needs a monitor, projector or TV to get you going. The device has two interesting features, the Ultra-wideband Wireless Display Connectivity which will let you wirelessly connect it to the designated display and the 5-inch multitouch panel that’s meant to improve your overall user experience.

But here’s a complete list of specs and features for the EeeKeyboard PC:

  • 5-inch 800×480 multitouch touchscreen display
  • Intel Atom N270 processor
  • 945GSE / ICH7-M
  • 1GB DDR2 on-board memory
  • 16/32 GB SSD
  • Ultra-wideband technology for wireless video transfer
  • 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi
  • 10/100/1000 Mbps LAN
  • Bluetooth 2.1
  • Up to 4 hours battery life
  • Broadcom 70010/70012 video decoder
  • Two speakers
  • Built-in microphone and headphone jack
  • 3 USB 2.0 ports
  • 1 HDMI out
  • 1 VGA
  • Dimensions: 145mm(L) x 425mm(H) x (10mm front ~ 24.4mm back)(H)
  • Windows XP

All we need now are some pricing details which apparently lack from Asus announcement. Anyone interested in this EeeKeyboard thing?
