Vodafone 845 Budget Android Phone Set for May Release
Following on from a number of leaked images showing the Vodafone’s first ever own branded Android phone having hit earlier in the month Vodafone have now acted to officially announce their new budget Android handset, namely the Huawei made Vodafone 845 (which is otherwise known as the Huawei ‘Joy’).

Aimed at those looking for a little Android action but who have constrained budgets (and, let’s be honest here, that’s a considerable market), the Vodafone 845 touts pretty reasonable specifications and, thanks to running Android 2.1 Éclair it even manages to win out against the heavyweight Xperia X10 in terms of OS (the 1.6 based X10 is still awaiting its 2.1 update).
Sporting a 2.8” touchscreen, key features concerning the 3G (HSDPA/Triband/Quadband) Vodafone 845 include integrated GPS navigational capabilities offering Vodafone Sat Nav compatibility, a 3.2 megapixel camera offering stills and video capture, WiFi and Bluetooth wireless connectivity and, of course, all the Google related functionality offered by the Android OS (Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube, et al) whilst you can also factor in pre-loaded Vodafone 360 services. It also boasts Mobile TV compatibility.

“In February we launched the world’s cheapest handset. Today we are again breaking new ground,” says Patrick Chomet, Group Director of Terminals. “I’m proud to be announcing the ‘845’, Vodafone’s first own branded Android smartphone. It runs the very latest Android ‘Eclair’ software and shows our commitment and ability to take high-end trends and make them an affordable option for many.”
According to Vodafone’s press blurb, the Vodafone 845 is set to target a total of 12 markets, though the UK is the only one specifically named, and is scheduled to drop sometime in May for an as yet undisclosed budget price point.
