HP Download Store Launches Today

HP Unveils The HP Download Store, A Virtual Marketplace For Software, Games & HP Services]

Earlier this morning, HP has unveiled their latest offering and it is not hardware related, but instead is focused on software. The new offering is the HP Download Store which is just what the name implies — a download store. But more specifically, the Download Store will allow users to find and download “more than 200 software titles and games.”

The HP Download Store will be offering software from vendors such as Microsoft, Adobe, Norton from Symantec and Roxio. As for games you can expect to find goodies such as Star Trek Online Deluxe Edition and James Cameron’s AVATAR: The Game. In terms of specific software titles, a quick check of the store shows items such as Quicken Starter Edition 2010, Microsoft Office, Photoshop Elements, LoJack for Laptops and much more.

Additionally, the HP Download Store will also have sections devoted to specialty products such as the HP Mini netbook lineup.

Speaking as to why you would want to use the HP Download Store as opposed to simply getting your software from other online sources. Well, aside from the fact that it may be nice to consolidate some of your purchasing, you will also be able to re-download any items for up to two years. That means no more having to save and/or search your hard drive for an install file, you can just visit the HP Download Store and start the download and go from there.

Moving on past regular software programs, HP is also offering some support and collaboration services including HP Virtual Rooms, HP SmartFriend Assistance and the HP Performance Tune-up Service as well as a few others.

Finally, as part of the launch announcement, HP is offering a promo code (LAUNCH20) that will allow new users to save $20 off any order of $50 or more. And just in case you may want to try and hold out for a better promo offer, there was also a promise that “twenty additional deals will appear throughout the month.”

I purchased software from the store this morning. Easy to do, and I really like the $20 discount. They don’t have many games for sale, but they had the software I wanted.
