Video: BlackBerry 6 OS Preview Now Available [BlackBerry 6 OS Video Meets Mixed Response as New BB OS Gets The Boom Boom Pow Treatment]

Having already advised you that the new BlackBerry 6 OS is set to hit sometime in Q3 2010 or, rather, “in the next calendar quarter” as RIM’s CEO, Mike Lazaridis, has officially confirmed, BlackBerry have now acted to give us a tantalising glimpse of the up and coming BlackBerry 6 OS thanks to a video showing highlights of BB 6 OS just posted on YouTube.

The video, it has to be said, is receiving a somewhat mixed response, primarily concerning the soundtrack – Boom Boom Pow by the Black Eyed Peas – which some responders have poured scorn on but, from our side, we have to say that we’re pretty impressed with the video overall and, in terms of confirming just why anyone should start getting excited concerning the new BlackBerry 6 OS it certainly does the job – and it’s especially nice to see BB’s take on Apple’s Coverflow in action 30 seconds in.

So what are we looking at here? Well, obviously, a completely new super touch friendly UI as well as a new Web Browser which, incidentally, is based on the very same WebKit core that Apple utilises on their iPhone, Web-based widgets with push compatibility, as well as ‘new multimedia features’ which take in new music and video capabilities (detail is a little scant concerning this right now, however). Additionally you can also factor in private video calling and up and coming new App World features which will allow end users to pay for new apps either by credit card or via their phone bill (this will also benefit BB users without BB 6 OS, of course).

Oh yes, and Flash support (or, at least, future Flash support) is on the cards to, though RIM’s CEO is yet to offer an specific timelines as to when this could be hitting.

All in all, as noted above, we were pretty impressed with the BlackBerry 6 OS preview video offered below though a great deal of it looked somehow familiar. Of course, we’d love to know your thoughts so do feel free to drop us a comment.
