Skype iPad App Does Work: iPad USB Camera Adapter Brings Audio Support

Phone Calls Available on the iPad After All: You Need Skype & an iPad USB Camera Adapter

The iPad has just become a little better than we initially thought. Apple didn’t uncover any hidden feature of the device just yet and Flash support is still missing. But what we now know is that the iPad can do voice calls thanks to that extra iPad USB Camera Adapter that you’ll end up buying sooner or later.

According to those people that purchased the accessory the iPad Camera Connection Kit can do audio via the USB adapter. All you need to do to get the feature is buy a set of USB headphones and download the Skype iPhone app and you’re good to go. You’ll be able to use the iPad to make and receive phone calls to your friends and family so next time your smartphone runs out of battery juice while you’re waiting for a certain volcano to let your plane take off you’ll be able to use your iPad to make some fast calls.

Of course the problem with the Wi-Fi iPad for making calls is that you will always need a Wi-Fi connection to actually being able to make Skype calls in the first place. Naturally once you get the iPad 3G you’ll always have a way of using Skype.

According to what people say Skype calls on the iPad are great, the quality of the calls is very good and the tablet is basically an even more dependable communications device. We haven’t tried it ourselves so we’d be waiting for your thoughts on the matter. Is the iPad Camera Connection Kit that good when it comes to making Skype calls?

I am actually surprised that Apple didn’t advertise this in any way so far and it doesn’t look like the company has made any changes to the official iPad online pages to reflect this particular feature of the iPad Camera Adapter.

So are you getting this particular accessory? I hear it is also good for connecting lots of other devices to the iPad.

I don’t understand the hype, I have been making Skype calls from my iPad from day one without te USB device.

Just use the iPad mic and either the iPad speakers or any 3.5mm headset.

    3. Tracey says:

I’m interested in somehow connecting a camera–webcam to the ipad. We are purchasing one as a family gift. We need the visual as well. We have a son with autism who communicates with friends across country and he needs the visual. Does anyone have any information about this? We currently communicate using a friend’s laptop occasionally.
